Giving back is a key priority of Icebolethu which is evident not only through the work that is done directly by Icebolethu Foundation but also through Icebolethu Academy. Having seen the gap between the privileged and underprivileged students and how this inequality results in further disadvantages at tertiary level due to the lack of computer literacy skills required for accomplishing academic tasks. Icebolethu Academy has stepped up to bridge this gap by offering free computer literacy training for grade 11 and 12 learners in preparation for tertiary education. The academy provides a structured, comprehensive computer training program where students are able to attend classes on weekends and once they have completed the course, they then graduate, therefore opening up room for the next set students to access the program.
The first group of 90 students graduated from the program and were honoured in a graduation ceremony held on 28th November 2019 at the Blue Lagoon in Durban. These learners are the first of many that will have their lives transformed through the academy and we look forward to seeing them succeed in the future.
